New back cover images for 2014 Star Trek calendars. Find out more, here.
2013 spoils use for choice when it comes to Star Trek calendars - Universe Publishing have taken the reins with the main US calendars, offering four different Trek designs, including the latest editions of the long running TOS and Ships of the Line calendars. Meanwhile ML Publishing has stepped in to celebrate TNG’s 25th anniversary with the first TNG calendar in years. In Germany Panini Books have released a Star Trek movie poster calendar. And in the UK Danilo have also got two Trek calendars, a second TOS calendar, and what has until now been a mystery; what Amazon lists as the “Official Star Trek Ships 2013 Calendar”. With a week to go until expected publication, Amazon has put up the covers for this final calendar, revealing to be specifically focusing on the ships of the latest Star Trek movie. Each month features either a still from the film, or concept art, with lots of the Enterprise, joined by the Kelvin, Narada, Jellyfish, and shuttlecraft. There aren’t any new images here, but for any fans of the new ship designs from the film it will be a pretty nice way to get some big prints of the new ships. Above are the front and back covers.

It seems another calendar has been added to the 2013 range! UK publisher Danilo have got the Star Trek Official 2013 Calendar on the way in August, seemingly in direct competition with Universe Publishing’s TOS calendar. Here are the covers and a sample page.
That’s seven Star Trek calendars all together this year now, with the Ships of the Line, TOS, Captain’s Log, and Daily calendars from Universe, a TNG calendar from ML, the German movie poster calendar from Panini, and now this new TOS one from Danilo!
There might be an eighth on the way too. A little while ago I spotted a listing for a Star Trek Ships calendar, also from Danilo. I assumed this would just be a UK printing of the Ships of the Line calendar. But as their TOS calendar is completely different to the Universe artwork that has been released so far, maybe that’s a different ships calendar too?
Amazon meanwhile, seem to be playing yoyo with the Universe’s 2013 calendars. Up until recently Ships of the Line and the TOS calendar were listed for August release. Then they were suddenly moved to July. But now they say August again! So once again this month, I’ve changed my latest releases panel on the left (of my main blog). In place of the calendars for now though is a new addition, as it seems this year’s Hallmark ornaments are out this month.
Amazon have posted a new cover for Ships of the Line 2013, finally replacing the cover art from Reap the Whirlwind. Tying into all the TNG love in this 25th anniversary year the new cover features the Enterprise-D running away from Q’s net thing from Encounter at Farpoint.
Look closely at the “Star Trek”, it has an awesome starship hull texture. I hope that’s one of Universe Publishing’s new additions to the Ships of the Line series going forward, as it looks great. Amazon are still using the old stand-in backcover art, but worry not, the actual calendar features all new images (not the reuses suggested on the stand in), you can see it, here.

Germany is having a little more luck with calendars than Enterprise novels. German publisher Panini have added the Star Trek Wandkalender 2013 to next year’s range of Star Trek calendars. Each month features poster art from each of the Star Trek movies, with the 2009 film getting two pages, November and December.

“A Tall Ship”, by Douglas Graves (aka Deg), coming soon to the 2013 Star Trek Ships of the Line calendar.
